It is difficult to believe we are already in the final week of June and just a month ago we wrapped up the first session of the 102nd Legislature. As we officially enter into the first days of summer, I am sending you a brief letter to inform you we are staying busy in the office and continuing our work to serve you. I hope you are all enjoying your summer so far and taking time to participate in the fun activities and outings that the summer brings. I am looking forward to the Sarpy County Fair this August and hope to see you there.
The office is winding down from the 102nd Legislature’s first session, reflecting on the tough issues that our state tackled this year, and preparing for the issues that may be brought forward with the upcoming session. Right now, one of our greatest concerns is the flooding. I have made it a priority to stay involved and informed, as it remains an urgent situation in various regions of the state.
I am privileged to serve as a liaison from the Government, Military & Veteran Affairs committee to the Homeland Security Policy Group led by Lieutenant Governor Sheehy. I have been keeping informed by visiting flooded areas in the region, attending the Emergency Operating Center (EOC) meetings, and even filling sandbags. I will continue to take an active role in this and will work to answer the concerns that you may have in regards to the flooding, emergency procedures and resources. Please do not hesitate to contact the office for any information.
There have been a number of proposed interim studies that are keeping senators and legislative staff busy during the interim. As we approach the fall months and delve further into the committee hearings, I will be keeping you updated.
I hope you continue to enjoy the rest of your summer and stay cool as the weather heats up in the coming weeks. I look forward to spending the 4th of July with family and friends and I wish you all a safe and happy holiday.
Please continue to contact the office with any questions or comments. I value your input and look forward to hearing from you. Additionally, if you would like to receive our newsletter electronically, please notify me at firstname.lastname@example.org and provide us with the email address at which you wish the newsletter to be sent.
