The 2013 legislative session began on January 9th. Today was the last day of bill introduction. There will be many challenges this year and I am looking forward to addressing them. As always I appreciate your feedback on legislation. Your input is an important part of the legislative process. Here are a few ways to stay involved.

Email: sprice@leg.ne.gov
Phone: 402-471-2627
Office: The District 3 office has moved to room 1202, located in the south hall of the capitol.

The legislature web site is a good resource to look up bills and find committee schedules. You can find that information here.
NET also makes possible live viewing of the legislature and committee hearings. You can view the legislature on this page.

For 2013 I will be serving on the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, and Telecommunications and Transportation Committee. I will once again be Vice Chairman of the Government Committee this year.

Be sure to check the district web site over the course of the session for my legislative updates. I hope the New Year got off to a great start for you! I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
Scott
Still many are struggling and our thoughts and prayers are with them as well. We also remember those serving and are away from home this Christmas. We pray for their safety and thank them for their service. We pray for their loved ones at home as well. May you find comfort and joy over the coming days and beyond. May we all take the spirit of Christmas forward into each and every day in the coming year!

Merry Christmas,
Scott

There is a wonderful event coming up in November to honor our Veterans. Some of our area high school students involved in DECA are organizing “Nebraska’s Got Your 6″ campaign. This project includes a candle light vigil at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge on November 10th. You can view the press release from the students below. It includes important details of the event. Also below is a flyer for the event. Please pass the flyer and information on. It’s great to see local youth putting together a great event to honor our Veterans!

Sincerely,
Scott Price
District 3

—————–

To whom it may it concern,

Our names are Jaycee Stephens, Kate Radosta, and Cole Patterson and we are students at Bellevue West High School in Bellevue, Nebraska. We are all a part of DECA. DECA is an organization of marketing students that educates and prepares students with skills in networking, leadership, and entrepreneurship. Acquiring skills like these prepares students fore careers in marketing, financial services, and many others. Each year, DECA members complete a project and compete at the state level and then the national level in various categories of marketing. Last year, Jaycee and Kate competed as a team and placed in the top 16 at nationals in the category marketing communications team decision making in Salt Lake City, Utah. This year, we all have an even bigger goal of making top 3 in the Public Relations category at Nationals in Anaheim, CA.

In order to achieve our goal we have created a public relations campaign called “Nebraska’s Got Your 6″. Our campaign strives to honor veterans in our community as well as promote organizations that support our military men and women and appreciate their sacrifices. “Nebraska’s Got Your 6″ comes from the military term got your 6. When telling directions on a clock face 12 would be in front of you and 6 would be behind you, the side you can’t see. So when someone says “I have got your six” it means that they have got your back. Our mission is to show the military veterans both nationally and locally that Nebraska’s got their 6.

To show the military that Nebraska’s got their 6, our plan is to create activities to raise awareness in our community about our campaign and organizations, hold events for military members, and to give a scholarship to a future military member from our school. We have also had the week of November 4th-10th proclaimed as the “Nebraska’s Got Your 6” week by Governor Dave Heineman when most of our promotion will take place. Our promotion for the week includes candle vigils, plaque dedications, parade involvement, school involvement and much more.

What we are asking of you is anything and everything you are willing to do to help get the word out about our project, and the event we are holding at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Omaha on November 10th at 6 PM. We are holding a candle vigil in honor of our past, present, and future veterans. Candles will be available at the bridge, and candle holders have been purchased so that the wind won’t be a problem. We will have hot chocolate at the bridge and are trying to get as many people as possible to come help us “light up the night” for our veterans. We are asking for a donation for the candles, and the money we raise will go towards a scholarship that will be handed out to a high school senior who is planning on joining the military next year. I have attached the flier we made for our event.

Thank you for your time.

I’m eager for the 2013 legislative session to begin. I wanted to share some thoughts about District Three and the upcoming session as legislators prepare for next year. I’m working on ideas to further economic development and lower taxes, we have a lot of success to build on.

The groundbreaking for the new STRATCOM Headquarters was earlier this month. This project will lead to 400 new jobs, and strengthen the high-tech capacity of our military. District Three remains a great place to live for our Veterans and those currently serving. GI Jobs magazine rated Bellevue University and UNO among the top military friendly institutions nationally.

Governor Heineman announced that Fidelity Investments will be building a new data center in Papillion. The data center is a $200 million investment that will create 30 to 35 jobs. Senator Cornett’s LB1118, which I supported, was important in Fidelity’s decision to build in Papillion. My priority bill, LB1080 passed last session and will further job creation. Yahoo! announced plans for a new facility in Papillion after these bills were signed. CNN Money and Money Magazine ranked Sarpy County, Papillion, and Bellevue high nationally in categories of jobs and livability. Nebraska is sending a strong message that we will compete for high-tech jobs.

During the interim I looked into our transportation and telecommunications infrastructure, and toured a telephone company in Pierce. The tour was hosted by Senators Sullivan and Dubas, highlighting improvements in rural telecommunications. I took part in a briefing with the Department of Roads which included additional projects funded by LB84. I’m eager to see these improvements carried on in all areas of our state.

I’ve enjoyed seeing many of you at area events during the interim. I’ll be sharing your input with my colleagues as we prepare for the 2013 session. This is an exciting time for District Three! You help make this possible with your ongoing communications. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

In recent monthly newsletters I touched on the great national rankings Papillion, Bellevue, and Sarpy County have received from national sources like CNN Money and Money Magazine. Today we have more good news for the area.

This morning Governor Heineman announced that Fidelity Investments will be building a new data center in Papillion. The data center is a $200 million project and will create between 30 and 35 jobs. Senator Cornett’s LB1118, that I supported, was important in Fidelity’s decision to build in Papillion. My priority bill LB 1080, which provides a property tax exemption and a sales and use tax exemption relating to data centers will lead to even more jobs for District 3. These bills prove that lower taxes will bring jobs into Nebraska.

Another great part of our community is support for our military. Earlier today I took part in the groundbreaking of the new STRATCOM headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base. This project will bring 400 new jobs to the area and strengthen the high-tech capacity of our military.

Great things continue to happen for Sarpy County. We have a low crime rate, affordable cost of living, great jobs, low unemployment, great education institutions, and modern health care facilities. I look forward to building on these successes in the next legislative session and seeing more opportunities develop for the residents of District 3 and Sarpy County.

Sincerely,
Scott Price
