Applications for internships for the 2018 Legislative Session are now open in the following areas: social media, advocacy, and policy.
My office is willing to work with students to obtain class credit, if desired. Internships will begin on or before Wednesday, January 3, 2018, depending on the availability of selected interns.

Social Media Internship
Description
Senator Tony Vargas’s office is looking for committed activists to help increase our presence on social media and keep our constituents informed of our office’s activities. Applicants for this position should be eager, a self-starter, and willing to work in a variable, high stress environment.
Responsibilities
- Help manage Senator Vargas’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media
- Coordinate with Legislative Aide and Administrative Aide on promoting events
- Develop social media campaigns to promote issues and pending legislation
- Grow Senator Vargas’s social media audience
- Work with the Advocacy and Policy Interns and the Administrative Aide to develop social media campaigns around legislation or community issues
Requirements
- Applicants for this internship should have experience (academic and/or professional or volunteer) in Communications, Marketing, and Political Science fields. Applicants with other backgrounds and relevant experience may be considered.
- Applicant must demonstrate knowledge of social media platforms and communications strategies and techniques
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate a passion for the legislature, social justice policy, and strengthening the civic health of our communities.
- Availability of 10 hours per week
Policy Internship
Description
Senator Vargas’s office is looking for committed activists to help the Senator and his staff with research on policy, issues, and other projects. Applicants for this position should be eager, a self-starter, and willing to work in a variable, high stress environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with policy research and analysis
- Writing, and editing reports and other projects
- Work with the Social Media and Advocacy interns and Legislative Aide to develop social media campaigns around legislation
- Coordinate with Legislative Aide on tasks and projects as needed
- Other tasks as necessary
Requirements
- Applicants for this internship should have experience (academic and/or professional or volunteer) in Communications, Marketing, and Political Science fields. Applicants with other backgrounds and relevant experience may be considered
- Applicant must demonstrate knowledge of the legislative process and public policy and must possess strong writing skills
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate a passion for the legislature, social justice policy, and strengthening the civic health of our communities
- Availability of 10 hours per week
Advocacy Internship
Description
Senator Vargas’s office is looking for committed activists to looking to help with constituent outreach and community advocacy. Applicants for this position should be eager, a self-starter, and willing to work in a variable, high stress environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain contact information for constituents, community organizations, and local elected officials
- Work with the Social Media and Policy interns and Administrative Aide to develop social media campaigns around legislation or community issues
- Research and attend local events, causes, and organizations on behalf of Senator Vargas’s office
- Recruit volunteers for events (Examples: door-to-door volunteers for the Community Survey, conducted during the interim; volunteers to help greet people at fundraisers and town halls.)
- Other tasks as necessary
Requirements
- Applicants for this internship should have experience (academic and/or professional or volunteer) in Communications, Marketing, and Political Science fields. Applicants with other backgrounds and relevant experience may be considered.
- Applicant must demonstrate knowledge of volunteer recruitment, community organizing, and outreach strategies and techniques
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate a passion for the legislature, social justice policy, and strengthening the civic health of our communities
